Bachalpsee, Grindelwald 🇨🇭

After I left India 7 years ago to begin a new life in Luxembourg, two of my friends, Sudeep and Susheel, finally managed to visit me for a short road trip across Europe. One of the highlights of the trip was hiking in the Swiss Alps. It was mid-spring, and most of the mountains were still cocooned in snow, so we decided to go for something leisurely and accessible. We chose an out-and-back trail from Mount First to Bachalpsee.

We began by grabbing a cable car from Grindelwald to Mount First. From there, it was an uncomplicated 3 KM flat walk to the lake. This hike is for everyone, and there are no steep or exposed sections. During summer, the trail is very busy with tourists and families. We were thankful to be here in early may because we managed to have the whole trail to ourselves for the most part.

While hiking towards the lake, we also had a clear view of some famous peaks in the Alps.

Eventually, we reached the end of the trail, which was supposed to be next to a pristine blue lake, but the lake was frozen. Nevertheless, the view of the mountain range from there was phenomenal.

Overall, this hike in the Grindelwald region has one of the best returns on investments in terms of the time and effort needed and the views you are shown. This hike encouraged my friends and me to go for some more experiences together in future.
